Aloha kākou,

We are writing to inform our community and visitors that the Summit District of Haleakalā National Park is currently closed due to the ongoing Crater Road fire. The fire, which started on July 10th, has burned over 574 acres and is 80% contained as of today. While firefighters continue to work diligently to fully extinguish the fire, Crater Road and the summit area will remain closed for at least another week to ensure the safety of both visitors and responders.

We understand that this closure may disrupt travel plans and cause inconvenience, but the safety of everyone involved is our top priority. Our hearts go out to the firefighters and emergency responders who are working tirelessly to contain the Crater Road fire.

We urge everyone to stay safe and informed during this time. We look forward to welcoming visitors back to the summit of Haleakalā as soon as it is safe to do so.

While the summit is closed, the Kīpahulu District of Haleakalā National Park remains open, offering visitors the opportunity to explore stunning waterfalls, lush rainforests, and the breathtaking Pools of ʻOheʻo.

Mahalo for your understanding and cooperation.

We encourage you to visit the Haleakalā National Park website for the latest updates on the fire and the park's status.
