Heart of Maui

Funded by Haleakalā Conservancy, this short documentary film follows two biologists working to save rare and endemic forest birds in Haleakalā National Park. With this hard to access rainforest as a backdrop, Erika and Chris uncover what technology could help restore native populations of birds and show what would be lost if humans fail to act and prevent the bird’s extinction.

Haleakalā: A Rare and Sacred Landscape

This 12-minute film features the highlights of Haleakalā National Park from the summit, the wilderness, to the Kīpahulu district of the park. Discover endemic species including rare native birds and plants, gain useful tips for visiting the park, and insights into Haleakalā’s Hawaiian heritage.

Koa Talking To Me

This National Park Service film follows a Hawaiian man's love for one of the rarest and most threatened trees in the world. Junior's connection with koa trees on his native island compels him to conserve and honor the spirit of fallen trees that would normally be wasted. His way of using the trees connects him to one of the oldest Hawaiian traditions.

Sounds of the Grove

If you hike around Homer's Grove, you'll likely hear many mysterious chirps, tweets, and songs. Here, you can hear these beautiful sounds and match them to the bird, so that you know whose presence is in the forest with you. Two of our honeycreepers are critically endangered. So if you hear them you are, in a way, hearing the songs of legends.

Haleakalā Conservancy works to preserve wildlife, ecosystems, history, and culture through educating about the park and providing inspirational experiences.
